• Born in Nuernberg, Germany. 
• Witnessed "Kristallnacht" at which time everything in the apartment I lived in with my parents and younger brother was destroyed.
• Left for Paris, France, at the end of December 1938.
• Fled to the south of France in June 1940, lived there legally until 1942, at which time I lived in various places with false papers, more or less hidden by French people you were part of the Resistance.
• Joined the French underground (Maquis) in 1944, returned to Paris in 1945, worked there for the American Headquarters, first in the Censorship Division, then in Graves Registration, until I left for the U.S. in January 1947.
